Course Description:

The goal of the BLS course is to train participants to save the lives of victims of cardiac arrest through high-quality CPR. The AHA designed the BLS Course to teach healthcare professionals how to perform high-quality CPR individually or as part of a team. BLS skills are applicable to any healthcare setting. BLS students will learn rescue techniques for adults, children, and infants. 

Intended Audience:

This course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in various in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

Course materials:
Students will be provided a copy of the BLS Provider Manual for use during their course. This book will be handed out at the beginning of class and collected at the class's conclusion. *Students will be assessed a fee of $16 if course materials are not returned at the conclusion of the course.
 
Students can purchase the BLS Provider manual ebook (digital download) for use before and after their classes directly from the AHA by visiting  https://shopcpr.heart.org/bls-provider-manual-ebook. Students may also purchase the paperback version directly from the AHA as well.

HeartCode® BLS Online is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program that uses adaptive learning technology to allow learners to acquire and demonstrate Basic Life Support skills using a personalized learning path that adapts in real-time to a learner’s performance. The program is designed for healthcare professionals who need Basic Life Support training for their clinical duties. HeartCode® BLS Online consists of a cognitive portion that is completed online and an in-person skill evaluation.

Who can take this course?

This course is only for Cooper University Health Care Advanced Practice Providers (APP) and Physicians.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Instructor Course 

Course Description

The ACLS Instructor Course is for those who wish to teach the American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) classes. Upon completing the course and the succeeding student teaching requirements, the Instructor Candidate will obtain an American Heart Association ACLS instructor card. Instructor Candidates can teach ACLS courses using the video and lesson maps that are part of the appropriate ACLS course instructor materials.

Prerequisites for ACLS Instructor Course

Before taking this course:

1. Candidates must have a current course completion card in ACLS issued by the American Heart Association. Candidates must also have aligned with an AHA ACLS Training Center accepting new ACLS Instructors.

2. Candidates must have a current BLS instructor card issued by the American Heart Association.

ACLS instructor candidates must schedule to come to the training center and pass the ACLS Provider exam with a score of 90% (this is not an open book exam)

  • We recommend that you review the AHA ACLS provider materials. The instructor course will not teach you the course materials but how to teach the content to students with different learning styles. You are expected to have a strong provider knowledge of the Advanced Cardiac Life Support guidelines.
  • You will be provided an ACLS Instructor Manual after taking the ACLS provider exam.
  • You will receive an email to complete the AHA ACLS online Instructor Essentials. This will be your ticket into the ACLS instructor-led portion of the course.
  • Completing this instructor course does not mean you will be teaching as an employee of Cooper Center for Resuscitation Education & Community Engagement or that you will be an aligned ACLS instructor with Cooper Univerity's training center, but you would be eligible to be aligned with an AHA training center.

The ACLS Blended Learning course is a combination of the ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment and Video Prework with a 1-day Instructor-led classroom session that teaches the importance of preventing cardiac arrest, high-performance teams, early and continuous, high-quality CPR, systems of care, recognition, and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, post-cardiac arrest care, acute dysrhythmias, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

  2. ACLS ONLINE EXAM: The exam will be emailed to you within 24 hours of registering or two business days.

Course Description

The ACLS/BLS Renewal for Cooper Physicians and APPs course combines the ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment and Precourse Work with an instructor-led skills evaluation session. 

After completing the ACLS precourse self-assessment, ACLS Precourse work, and BLS heartcode, you will attend a structured, Instructor-led, hands-on session focusing on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team dynamics training, megacode cases, and skills testing. 

The in-person session will evaluate the material you completed and reviewed during the AHA ACLS Precourse work and online ACLS and BLS exams.

Course Description:

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program® (NRP®) course conveys an evidence-based approach to care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. This course content delivers curricula for Advanced Providers who may participate in neonatal resuscitation beyond ventilation.

Intended Audience:

This course is designed for healthcare professionals involved in the delivery and care of newborns, including those who may be required to initiate and manage neonatal resuscitation. Participants may include:

  • Physicians (e.g., pediatricians, neonatologists, family medicine, obstetricians, anesthesiologists)
  • Advanced Practice Providers (nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurse midwives)
  • Labor and delivery, postpartum, and neonatal intensive care nurses
  • Respiratory therapists and paramedics involved in newborn care
  • Other healthcare personnel who may assist during neonatal resuscitation

Course Work: 

  1. Once you register for NRP through the Cooper registration site (enrollware.com), you will be entered into the New NRP Learning Platform. 
  2. You will receive an email from the no-reply@nrplearningplatform.com site to create an account and be assigned an NRP Global ID. Once this is completed, your registration will then be completed.
  3. Once your NRP Global ID is created in the system, you will be assigned the NRP 9th Edition Advanced Provider Curriculum to complete.
  4. To successfully pass the course, the learner must complete the Provider Curriculum Part 1 and 2.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this continuing medical education activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the physiological transition from fetal to extrauterine life and the initial steps of newborn care.
  • Anticipate and prepare for delivery, including setup of equipment, oxygen management, and indications for CPAP.
  • Identify when and how to initiate ventilation, perform corrective steps, and insert advanced airways (laryngeal mask or endotracheal tube).
  • Recognize when to begin and discontinue chest compressions and properly administer medications such as epinephrine and volume expanders.
  • Apply appropriate post-resuscitation care and stabilization strategies, including those specific to preterm and high-risk newborns.
  • Manage special situations such as airway abnormalities, congenital anomalies, and effects of maternal medications.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the ethical principles of neonatal resuscitation, including support for families and staff after neonatal death.
  • Integrate neonatal resuscitation knowledge and skills for use both inside and outside the delivery room.

The Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS®) Blended Learning Course is designed to help in-hospital and prehospital healthcare professionals identify, evaluate, and manage patients with stroke. This course was developed in partnership with The University of Miami Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education.

Course Options

Prehospital Provider Course:

  • Highlights the principles of prehospital stroke management that make up the current standard of care, such as determining when to call
  • a stroke alert and quickly transport the patient to the nearest appropriate facility
  • Explains how to communicate the patient’s symptoms, time of onset, and neuro-logic exam clearly and succinctly with hospital personnel

In-Hospital Provider Course:

  • Focuses on the importance of an organized approach to treating stroke patients for improved outcomes
  • Discusses the etiologic evaluation and secondary stroke prevention for stroke patients
  • Describes the management of goals for acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage
  • Outlines post-acute care management, including supportive medical care, rehabilitation, and discharge planning for stroke patients

Prehospital & In-Hospital Provider Course:

  • Combines all of the components of the Prehospital and In-Hospital courses and is best suited for healthcare providers who work in both environments, as well as ASLS instructor candidates who will be conducting the in-person skills testing for learners from both audiences

Heartsaver® Total - Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED

This course from the American Heart Association has been updated to reflect new science based on the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online is a self-directed course that uses interactive lessons and videos to teach you comprehensive First Aid, CPR, and AED knowledge. This program is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs an AHA course completion card. You will learn:

  • First aid basics
  • Medical emergencies
  • Injury emergencies
  • Environmental emergencies
  • Adult CPR and AED use
  • Adult choking
  • Child CPR and AED use
  • Infant CPR
  • Child choking
  • Infant choking

CPR instruction includes high-quality compressions, airway management, breathing, and how to use a mask.

First Aid instruction includes bandaging, bleeding, wounds, choking, shock, seizure, fainting, broken bones, sprains, burns, bites, stings, poison, and temperature-related conditions, to name a few.

Once you begin the course, you’ll have access to the online lessons, videos, manuals, and resources for two years! You can start and stop the course at your convenience until you have finished it at your own pace.

Successful completion of the full Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course includes three (3) parts:

  • Part 1, Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED online course
  • Part 2, a hands-on skills practice session, is required within 60 days (The session is scheduled by emailing CPR@cooperhealth.edu)
  • Part 3, a hands-on skills test is required within 60 days (The session is scheduled by emailing CPR@cooperhealth.edu)

(Parts 2 & 3 are completed at the same time in person at our training center)

After you successfully complete all three parts, you will receive an AHA Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course completion card, valid for two years.
