Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Initial Provider Course

**Pre-Course Self-assessment and Pre-course work Required**

Course Description:

The course is for anyone attending PALS for the first time or who does not have a current valid PALS certification. The PALS Blended learning consists of completing the PALS Pre-course self-assessment and PALS Pre-course work with a 1-day Instructor-led classroom session. On the date of your registered class, you will complete a 1-Day instructor-led classroom session. In this session, you will complete a review of the child and infant CPR skills. High-performance CPR will be reviewed and practiced while being provided with real-time CPR feedback. You will then participate in skill stations (Airway, Vascular Access, and Defibrillator). You will then complete the PALS cases through team simulations.

This course will consist of the following:

  • Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest
  • The systematic approach to pediatric assessment
  • Effective respiratory management
  • Validate skills for one- and two-person CPR and AED skills for infant and child
  • Defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion
  • Intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration
  • Effective resuscitation team dynamics

Intended Audience:

The PALS Course is for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in managing respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, and others who need a PALS course completion card for a job or other requirements.

Prerequisites:

  • Knowledge of cardiac rhythms, PALS treatment algorithms, and PALS core pharmacology.
  • Complete precourse assessment test and precourse work PALS Precourse Self-Assessment and Precourse Work | Click “Launch This Course” and follow prompts | 70% or better is required.

Students who successfully complete the PALS Course (including achieving a score of 84% or higher on the course exam) and the hands-on session will receive a PALS Provider course completion card (e-Card), valid for two years.
