Course Description

The ACLS Instructor Course is for those who wish to teach the American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) classes. Upon completing the course and the succeeding student teaching requirements, the Instructor Candidate will obtain an American Heart Association ACLS instructor card. Instructor Candidates can teach ACLS courses using the video and lesson maps that are part of the appropriate ACLS course instructor materials.

Prerequisites for ACLS Instructor Course

Before taking this course:

1. Candidates must have a current course completion card in ACLS issued by the American Heart Association. Candidates must also have aligned with an AHA ACLS Training Center accepting new ACLS Instructors.

2. Candidates must have a current BLS instructor card issued by the American Heart Association.

ACLS instructor candidates must schedule to come to the training center and pass the ACLS Provider exam with a score of 90% (this is not an open book exam)

  • We recommend that you review the AHA ACLS provider materials. The instructor course will not teach you the course materials but how to teach the content to students with different learning styles. You are expected to have a strong provider knowledge of the Advanced Cardiac Life Support guidelines.
  • You will be provided an ACLS Instructor Manual after taking the ACLS provider exam.
  • You will receive an email to complete the AHA ACLS online Instructor Essentials. This will be your ticket into the ACLS instructor-led portion of the course.
  • Completing this instructor course does not mean you will be teaching as an employee of Cooper Center for Resuscitation Education & Community Engagement or that you will be an aligned ACLS instructor with Cooper Univerity's training center, but you would be eligible to be aligned with an AHA training center.
