Course Description
The PALS renewal course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in managing respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients. This course uses precourse preparation, didactic instruction, and active participation in learning stations and simulated cases to enhance the recognition and intervention of respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest.
During the in-person session, you will:
- Review and practice infant and child CPR skills
- Review Perform high-performance CPR with real-time feedback
- Review and participate in skills stations (Airway, Vascular Access, Defibrillator)
- Engage in team-based simulations to complete PALS case scenarios
Intended Audience:
The PALS Course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in managing respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies, as well as cardiopulmonary arrest, in pediatric patients. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, and others who require a PALS course completion card for their job or other purposes.
Prerequisites:
- Knowledge of cardiac rhythms, PALS treatment algorithms, and PALS pharmacology
- Completion of the PALS Pre-Course Self-Assessment and Pre-Course Work
- A score of 70% or higher is required on the Pre-course self-assessment
- Complete the video prework
Course Includes:
- Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest
- Systematic pediatric assessment
- Effective respiratory management
- Validation of one- and two-rescuer infant and child CPR and AED skills
- Defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion
- Intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration
- Effective resuscitation team dynamics
Students must successfully complete all course components, including the hands-on skills session and the written exam (with a score of 84% or higher), to receive a PALS Provider e-Card valid for two years.
